Comentário

O carbimazol é um fármaco antitiroideo de tiourea que atua bloqueando a produção de hormônios tireoidianos. Se metaboliza inteiramente a metimazol, sendo equivalente a 60% do mesmo. Se utiliza no tratamento do hipertireoidismo, a preparação de pacientes hipertireoideos para a tireoidectomia, como complemento da terapia com iodo radioativo e no tratamento da crise tireoidea. Se administra por via oral em uma dose inicial de 15 a 40 mg ao dia, em dose única ou divididas; em ocasiões pode ser necessário administrar até 60 mg ao dia. Se excreta no leite materno em quantidade clinicamente não significativa (Fumarola 2011, Rylance 1987, Low 1979, Johansen 1972). Os níveis no plasma dos bebês que mamavam foram muito baixos. (Rylance 1987) Não produz alterações na função tireoidea ou no desenvolvimento físico e mental dos bebês alimentados com leite materno de mães tratadas, pelo que pode administrar-se de forma segura durante a amamentação. (Azizi 2006, 2003 e 1996, Verd 1998, Lamberg 1984) Diversas sociedades médicas e autores especializados consideram seguro o uso desta medicação durante a amamentação em doses baixas ou moderadas que não excedam os 30 mg diários ou 50 mg semanais.
