Antiepiléptico utilizado também no tratamento da dor neuropática e da síndrome das pernas inquietas. Administração oral três vezes ao dia. É excretada em leite materno em quantidade clinicamente não significativa (Kristensen 2006, Ohman 2005) e não foram observados problemas em bebês cujas mães a tomavam. (Kristensen 2006, Ohman 2005, Johannessen 2005) Os níveis em plasma de tais bebês foram indetectáveis ou muito baixos. (Kristensen 2006, Ohman 2005) Uma mãe nos comunicou em 2016 que tomava gabapentina durante a amamentação e ao aumentar a dose a 600 mg ao dia notou que sua filha de seis meses estava muito dormindo o dia todo. Embora desaconselhada na amamentação em alguns artigos mais antigos (Mercadé 2012, Harden 2009), diversas sociedades médicas, especialistas e consensos de especialistas consideram seguro o uso desta medicação durante a amamentação.
